Back in June of this year, when it was nice and sunny with temperatures in double figures Subaru made a donation out of goodwill. The car manufacturer famous for producing the permanent Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system donated a Subaru Forester 2.0 D XC to the Yorkhill Children’s Foundation.
The Glasgow based foundation provides support and equipment for sick children and babies in and around Scotland. The recent cold snap has meant staff and doctors have been putting the 4x4 vehicle to good use, and have relied heavily on its All-Wheel Drive capabilities since the winter weather has taken hold. The main role of the Subaru Forrester is to transport critical care emergency teams to hospitals all around Scotland.
The vehicle has found itself regularly in the thick of the action, helping provide rapid, high-speed response to incidents and getting staff to the helipad or airport quickly. More recently, the Forrester has been used to drive through deep snow en route to Stirling, Wishaw, and Glasgow's helipad in order to get to a sick baby in Fort William.
Dr Andrew McIntyre a Consultant in paediatric Intensive Care Medicine at Yorkhill is very impressed with the Forrester and praised it, "The latest addition to the Foundation's line-up is proving invaluable, giving us a speed of response that cannot be matched by the ambulance service. It's great to drive and extremely sure footed even in horrible weather - which we have really been testing during the recent cold snap!
If you are worried about getting around during the freezing temperatures and live in the countryside it might be a good idea to pop down to your local dealer and see if they have a cheap 4x4 on sale. I will be popping into a
used cars Kent garage, a cheap 4x4 just to get by the winter months would be ideal.
