For the second time in 2 years the Audi R8 has taken the much respected accolade of "Wold Performance Car" of the year award. In 2008 the Audi R8 V8 had taken this award and now in 2010 the R8 V10 has taken it.
The R8 is Audi’s high performance supercar which has a longitudinally mounted engine in the middle of the chassis; it also comes with Audi’s renowned quattro permanent four wheel drive system. The R8 is designed, developed and built by Quattro GmbH – the high performance arm of Audi; the R8 is based on the Lamborghini Gallardo platform.
Audi’s supercar has been developed jointly with quattro GmbH, the Audi R8 V10 is powered by a 5.2 litre direct injection ten-cylinder engine which develops 525bhp; it can do 0 to 62mph in just 3.9 seconds and on to a top speed of 196mph. It features some of Audi’s latest and newest technologies such as a lightweight aluminium body and innovative all-LED lights.
At The World Car Awards in New York the panel of judges mentioned that, "In the opinion of many on the World Car Awards jury, Audi has at long last satisfied our hunger for a street car that lives up to the excitement of the original Le Mans series-dominating R8 LMP1 race car."
The R8 Spider model has also attracted a lot of applause after its release in late 2009, we’ll wait and see if that wins any awards to add to this second award in the R8’s trophy cabinet. The latest award means whether you choose the V8 powered model or the V10 powered one, a
